Day 2 |
Athens city tour - private guided tour. |
Begin your day with a fascinating journey into the wonders of ancient Athens. Starting from your hotel, your first stop is the striking Panathenaic Stadium. Built entirely of marble on the site of the original ancient stadium, it was reconstructed for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. A true architectural marvel, it is an impressive sight well worth pausing to admire (photo stop).
From there, continue to the Temple of Olympian Zeus, once one of the largest temples of the ancient world and dedicated to the king of the Olympian gods. Even in ruins, its colossal columns still inspire awe in every visitor - a beautiful photo stop here also.
Your route then takes you past the lush National Gardens to the Hellenic Parliament, where the traditionally dressed Evzones stand guard. The changing of the guards offers a glimpse into Greek modern history and is always a delight to witness. From here, your driver will take you to Athens’ crowning glory—the Acropolis.
A visit to Athens would be incomplete without exploring the legendary Acropolis, the iconic citadel that rises majestically above the city. After being dropped at the foot of the pedestrian walkway, enjoy a pleasant uphill stroll to this UNESCO World Heritage Site with your private guide. Together, you will uncover the Parthenon, the Propylaea gateway, the Erechtheion, and the Temple of Athena Nike—masterpieces that embody the genius of ancient Greek architecture and reflect the power and ambition of Athens at its peak. As your guide brings history to life, you’ll be transported back to the golden age of Greece. The Acropolis is not just a site to see—it is an experience that captures the very spirit of Athens.
Conclude your visit with a short downhill walk (about 5–10 minutes) to the Acropolis Museum. Opened in 2009, this dazzling modernist museum overlooks the Acropolis and is considered one of the most beautifully situated museums in the world. Its collections are thoughtfully displayed, helping visitors to reimagine the Parthenon and understand its grandeur in antiquity. A perfect finale to your morning of discovery in the heart of ancient Athens.
Rest of the day at leisure.
